Signal 1 at ports as depression develops over Bay

The Met Office has issued a warning to Bangladesh's four maritime ports – Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Mongla and Payra due to the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal The Bangladesh Meteorological Department released the information in a special weather bulletin on Thursday. The depression is likely to intensify further and move in a northeasterly direction. It was centred on Wednesday midnight about 985km southwest of Chittagong port, 965km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 795km southwest of Mongla port and 830km southwest of Payra port. Maximum sustained wind speed within 44km of the depression centre is about 40kph rising to 50kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the depression centre. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea. Earlier in another bulletin on Wednesday, the Met office said light to moderate rain, thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur till Thursday at many places in Khulna, Barisal, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions.
