NHRC chairman: Separate ID card is must for third gender people
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque has said that third gender people need separate identity cards to avoid harassment. He made the remark while inaugurating the Bangladesh wing of Right Here Right Now (RHRN), an international platform for partnership workshops, on Wednesday. He also said that harassment in the name of "checking" to verify the third gender people should be stopped as soon as possible. Beside constitutional recognition, the government should not only make laws to protect the third gender community but implement them as well to ensure the community's safety, he added. RHRN is currently active in Africa, Asia, Latin America and 10 other countries in Caribbean sub-regions.
