Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla has praised Bangladesh for successfully tackling the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.
“Bangladesh has successfully tackled the humanitarian crisis [Rohingya crisis]," he said while speaking to reporters at Chittagong port on Thursday.
Thanking the Bangladesh government, Shringla said: “India was and will always be beside Bangladesh in the time of the Rohingya crisis.”
A ship carrying 700 tons of relief for the Rohingya arrived at the port from India around 5:30am.
The Indian high commissioner handed over the relief to Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Zillur Rahman Chowdhury.
Additional District Magistrate Mominur Rashid told the Dhaka Tribune: “The relief contains rice, pulses, edible oil, sugar and other food items. India has sent a total of 800 tons of relief so far.”
At least 501,800 Rohingya have entered Bangladesh fleeing the violence in Myanmar.
