Officer-Employee Welfare Association President Enamul Haque and General Secretary Monirul Alam co-signed the letter, saying: “In Rakhine, the Myanmar army has conducted atrocities against 80% of the Rohingya women, children and elderly. It is genocide, mass rape and inhuman torture. After losing their properties, their homes and livestock, the Rohingya have come a long way to seek refuge in Bangladesh. But now they are starving and ailing,” the letter reads. Since Myanmar armed forces began the “ethnic cleansing” of Rakhine on August 25, more than 435,000 Rohingya people including 30,000 Hindus have fled to Bangladesh. According to global media reports, the Myanmar armed forces have killed over 5,000 people, prompting calls of genocide from world leaders. However, the Myanmar government has claimed the death toll is around 400.
