Bangladesh Coast Guard plans to buy two vessels from Khulna Shipyard to bolster the coastal patrol agency.
According to a Coast Guard official, the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry will submit the procurement papers at a Cabinet Division meeting on Tuesday.
The costs for the two vessels will be an estimated Tk159.8crore.
Adding the two inshore patrol vessels to the existing fleet will increase the patrolling range of the Coast Guard.
The contract has been granted to Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, whose Tk159.8crore offering was able to outbid Khulna Shipyard Limited’s Tk178.5crore budget.
Back in 2015, the government purchased 10 ships from China and Italy at a cost of Tk2,777crore.
