Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit the flood-ravaged Haor regions of Sunamganj on April 30, the district's deputy commissioner (DC) has said.
DC Sheikh Rafiqul Islam said the prime minister's itinerary had not been finalised yet.
“We will hold a preparatory meeting this evening ahead of the prime minister's visit,” he told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Flash floods, triggered by several days of torrential rain, have inundated vast swathes of the north-eastern region and damaged Boro paddy, putting the livelihood of thousands of farmers at risk.
Sunamganj, Sylhet, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Netrakona and Brahmanbaria districts have been affected by the floods.
The government says it will provide relief material to about 335,000 families. President Md Abdul Hamid visited the flood-hit Haor regions in mid-April.
