A RAB bomb disposal unit has arrived at Scholar’s Home School and College in Sylhet’s Shahi Eidgah area on Tuesday.
RAB Deputy Commander Major Jamshedur Rahman said the object could be a powerful improvised explosive device (IED). The object contains multiple cables in its circuit.
Another team from Dhaka will join the bomb squad to scan the object and confirm if it is an IED.
Sylhet metropolitan police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (media) Zedan Al Musa has confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that the bomb-like object, wrapped in scotch tape, was found in the college auditorium.
“Police and RAB have visited the spot. Police have cordoned off the area,” he said.
The bomb-like device, found on the college premises, caused panic among students.

A law enforcement team reached the college premises after being informed by the school authorities at 11am.
A fire service unit took position outside the school campus.
RAB and police personnel cordoned off the auditorium as the bomb-like object was found there.
The college principal, Brigadier General (retd) Zubayer Siddique, said that a programme was organised at the auditorium, marking the result publication of first-term examinations, and someone discovered the object during the event.
The programme was cancelled soon after the object was found but regular academic classes continued without any interruption, the principal added.
All classes were dismissed at 12pm after the students' guardians demonstrated before the school. The students and teachers were sent outside the school campus to safety by 1:30pm.
