The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) is conducting a roadside eviction drive from Shahjadpur to Baridhara beside the Gulshan lake in Dhaka.
Rajuk Executive Magistrate Md Nasir Uddin is leading the drive which began around 11am on Sunday, and evicted some 50 shops and shanties from the road.
There was a case ongoing for the last 15 years between 12 locals and Rajuk over the land on which the road is built. After several meetings with Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Haq, both parties agreed to settle the dispute.
“The road now will be open to the people. City Corporation will repair it as soon as possible,” said Mayor Annisul Haq.
Local lawmaker Rahmatullah and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain were also present during the drive.
Following the demand of the locals, mayor, Rajuk and the minister agreed to compensate them.
