12 injured in BCL clash at DU

Twelve student activists were injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Salimullah Muslim (SM) hall over allocation for seats at the hall.

The clash occurred Thursday night around 11pm between the followers of SM hall unit BCL president Tahsan Ahmed Rasel and secretary general Mehadi Hasan Taposh.

DU acting proctor Amzad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune that the injured were admitted to DU medical centre after primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He said: “Stern action will be taken against the individuals responsible after an investigation is done.”

Chhatra League sources said the scuffle began after an activist of the secretary general faction was beaten.

The situation was pacified by DU acting proctor Amzad Ali and DU BCL president Abid Al Hasan.

On asking the SM hall BCL unit secretary general Mehadi Hasan Taposh, he said: “The clash took place due to a misunderstanding among the first year students. It has been solved with our intervention.”

DU BCL president Abid Al Hasan said: “BCL will take steps against the activists who were involved.”
