Foreign Ministry wants 70 Mercedes Benz
The government plans to procure 70 pieces of luxurious Mercedes Benz cars to entertain the foreign ministers who are scheduled to attend the 45th OIC conference in Dhaka, next year. Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently sent a letter to the Finance Ministry seeking Tk40 crore allocation to implement the plan. The letter, signed by Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque, said: “We want to procure 70 Sedans, like Mercedes Benz, for the foreign guests, which corresponds to their status.” As there are no local or international organisations in Bangladesh which could rent such luxurious vehicles, the ministry has decided to procure the cars itself, the letter addressing Finance Ministry's Senior Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun reads. Dhaka will be hosting the 45th conference (CFM) of the 57 members Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in May or June in 2018. OIC states that it is "the collective voice of the Muslim world" and works to "safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony.”
