BNP leader Tuku transferred to Kashimpur jail

Update : 12 Apr 2017, 07:52 PM
Former BNP state minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku was transferred to Kashimpur jail in Gazipur from Sirajganj Tuesday due to security concerns. Jailer of the Sirajganj District Jail Abul Bashar confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. Supervisor Md Al Mamun said that the prison had become overloaded with inmates. “The number of prisoners in the jail has become seven times its capacity and it is getting difficult to manage such a large number inmates only with 53 prison guards,” Mamun said. “In this situation, it was not possible to ensure proper security for the former state minister. So, the transfer was made after discussing the matter with the higher authorities,” the jail supervisor added. Tuku was sent to jail by a Sirajganj court on April 10 after he surrendered before it and sought bail in a case filed over vandalism and arson attacks on October 11, 2010. Seven cases were filed accusing several hundred leaders and supporters of the BNP.
