11,000 uniformed cops to be deployed on Pohela Boishakh
A total of 11,000 uniformed policemen will be deployed to maintain law and order situation during the Pohela Boishakh celebration in the capital. Dhaka University, Ramna and Suhrawardy Udyan areas will be brought under CCTV surveillance, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said at a press briefing on Tuesday. Plainclothes from intelligence wings will also monitor the celebration to avoid any untoward situation on the day, said the DMP commissioner. He said only the vehicles having Dhaka University stickers will be allowed to enter the campus from 6pm, April 13 to 9pm, April 14. The DMP also slapped some restrictions on Mongol Shobhajatra, the Bangla New Year procession. Participants will have to join in the procession from the beginning as none will be allowed to join in while the procession will be ongoing. Policemen will be escorting the procession and no one will be allowed to wear the traditional masks.
