Police have recovered bodies of two girls from their residence in Maulavipara area of Gopalganj district.
The deceased are Chaitri Afrin Toma, a class IX student at Gopalganj Girls High school and her niece Zakia Sultana Sraboni, a class VIII student at the same school.
Gopalganj OC Selim Reza said: “The bodies were found hanging from the ceiling fan of their room on Saturday evening. We recovered the bodies and sent those to Gopalganj General morgue for autopsy.”
He said: “They might have committed suicide. We are interrogating the family members and neighbours."
Toma’s cousin Fatema Khanom said: “The duo returned home from school around 3:30pm. They went to their room and did not come out.
“The family members broke in as they did not respond even after repeated calls when their private tutor came in the evening.”
Fatema said: “They were taken to the hospital where the doctors declared them dead.”
However, she did not not give any reason for the apparent suicide.
