Naripokkho to boycott Women’s Day state events

Update : 08 Mar 2017, 01:41 AM
In the letter, Naripokkho also requested all NGOs and organisations working on women’s rights and human rights to shun the state announced events. Expressing their disapproval of the recently passed law, the letter said: “Naripokkho will boycott all programmes where government representatives will be present to celebrate International Women’s Day and requests everyone to boycott them as well.” On February 27, Bangladeshi lawmakers passed the child marriage prevention law with a provision for allowing it in “special circumstances.” Earlier, Executive Director of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association Salma Ali said: “On this Women’s Day, our main agenda will be child marriage, and we will observe it as a ‘black day’ to protest this new law.”
