A stone-laden container train of India has arrived in Parbatipur of Dinajpur in a bid to build connectivity and increase economic cooperation with Bangladesh.
India inked a deal with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar to enhance regional connectivity by facilitating seamless movement of people, goods and vehicles among the nations.
The train carrying 2,472 tonnes of stones in its 42 waggons entered through the Parbatipur frontier around 2:30pm Wednesday.
“The metre gauge rail line from India’s Radhikapur to Bangladesh’s Parbatipur was converted into dual gauge in December last year. The test train movement started today,” said Dinajpur Railway’s Assistant Engineer Rakibul Hasan.
The train’s guard Afzal Hossain said the stones would be taken to Sirajganj.
Locals and traders in Dinajpur are happy as the initiative will create additional jobs and boost the business.
