Women running all points for special Biman flight
To commemorate International Women's Day 2017, Biman Bangladesh has scheduled a special Dhaka-Sylhet flight on March 8. The flight bears great significance as it will be the first to be manned by an all-women crew. To top that off, not only will the women solely compose the flight crew, the flight operations, maintenance, scheduling, security, and ground handling will also be solely carried out by women. Captain Tania Reza and First Officer Sarwat Shiraj Antora will fly the Boeing 737-800 to Sylhet at 1:15pm. The cabin crew will consist of four women as well. Shakil Meraj, general manager and Biman spokesperson said initiative was taken to encourage more women to take part in the aviation sector. “The incumbent government believes in women empowerment, and they are emphasising it in various sectors. This initiative will inspire more women to join the global aviation industry.”
