Transport strike in Chuadanga continues for third day
Transport workers in Chuadanga continued their strike for the third consecutive day protesting bus driver Jamir Hossain’s life sentence in a case filed over the deaths of Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier, and three others in 2011. The transport workers were seen picketing in several places on the five main routes of the district on Friday morning. The strike causes immense sufferings to common people. They demanded a quick solution to the problem. M General Islam, president of Chuadanga District Bus-Truck Union, said the union leaders would hold an urgent meeting to discuss the next course of action.

He also warned that the movement would be spread throughout the country if driver Jamir was not released. The District Bus and Truck Workers Union of Chuadanga enforced the indefinite transport strike from Wednesday following the announcement of the verdict. A Manikganj court on Wednesday sentenced bus driver Jamir Hossain to life in prison in a case filed over the deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Tareque Masud, journalist and cinematographer Mishuk Munier, and three others in 2011. The fatal accident took place on August 13, 2011, on the Dhaka - Aricha highway at Ghior upazila in Manikganj.
