President: Army must work for people’s welfare
The president made the call at the second Corps Reunion of Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre (BIRC) at Rajshahi Cantonment on Thursday. "I hope members of the armed forces will work for the people's welfare during an emergency. You will play an active role in nation building activities side by side with ensuring national security and sovereignty," the president was quoted by BSS. He said the Army is an institution where there is no alternative to making them disciplined. President Hamid also observed that the Bangladesh army has become a modern and time-befitting force. Appreciating the contribution of the armed forces both at home and abroad, Hamid said members of the armed forces showed significant efficiency in the world, thus upholding the image of the country. "Members of the armed forces gained people's respect and love by providing better services and responsibilities in their activities," he said. The president highlighted the role of the Bangladesh Army in facing national calamities, developing infrastructure, building shelter homes, issuing National Identity (NID) cards and preparing voter lists and other services-oriented activities.
