UN special envoy to visit Rohingya camp
UN special rapporteur on human rights Yanghee Lee is expected to arrive in Dhaka on February 18 for a three-day visit to observe conditions at the Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar. The UN special envoy will hold meetings with senior government officials after visiting the camp. Earlier in January, Lee submitted a report on the condition of the Rohingya to the UN after visiting Myanmar's Rakhine State. She will also make a report on the Rohingya refugees living in the Cox's Bazar camp. The UN envoy is scheduled to hold a meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali as well. The government has decided to transfer the registered refugees from the camp to Thengar Char, a disjunct island in Noakhali. Representatives of the diplomatic community have given their consent to help the Bangladesh government implement its relocation plan while the foreign minister has briefed them at a programme last week. Lee is also scheduled to visit Thengar Char.
