Police went to the spot after the locals informed them about the incident.
Tefnaf police OC Md Abdul Majid told the Dhaka Tribune: “The smugglers fled the scene before the police arrived. We also found 2,000 yaba pills and a locally-made gun in abandoned condition.”
Police think that the gunfight took place when the two groups were trading yaba pills.
Various media sources and locals have identified the dead as Sultan Ahmed Prokash alias Chamra Badshah. They claim that Chamra Badshah is the son of Asiur Rahman from Hila in Teknaf. However, police have not yet confirmed the dead man's identity.
The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
