The mining at Barapukuria coal mine has been halted for the insufficient stock of coal in coalface.
The Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) shut mining for insufficiency of coal in the coalface on January 31.
BCMCL Managing Director Habib Uddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune about the circumstances of Barapukuria coal mine.
He said: “We had to declare the halt in mining as the coal stock of the mine's coalface has already been ran out.
However, it will take one and half months to resume mining after constructing a new coalface.”
The BCML official also said that around 6, 00,000 tonnes of coal had been mined from the coalface No. 1,214 in last six months.
“We are constructing coalface No. 1,207 to resume the coal production. The new coalface is loaded with around 5, 00,000 tones to 6, 00,000 tonnes of coal in stock.” he added.
He also said: “We have already 2, 00,000 tonnes of coal and it is sufficient to run two units of 250 Megawatts power plant for at least four months.”
