Police have detained the driver and seized the truck.
The injured were first taken to Matiranga Upazila Health Complex and the sadar hospital. Later two of them were sent to the CMCH as their condition deteriorated. One of them, Boby Marma, 15, died around 4:30pm.
Twelve injured persons were shifted to the sadar hospital from Matiranga Upazila Health Complex. Another critically injured person has been sent to the CMCH for better treatment, reports our Chittagong correspondent.Seven of them died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.
Of the injured, condition of two people was stated to be critical.
The Buddhist community people gathered at the monastery for a funeral around 10:30am when the truck ploughed through the crowd, according to Matiranga police OC Shahadat Hossain Titu.
