Joypurhat rape victim yet to get sense back, rapists still at large
The condition of 9th Grade schoolgirl, who was stabbed after rape at Matrai union in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat in the early hours of Friday, still remains senseless. She went through an hour-long operation in the morning. She has been kept at a post-operative room and will remain on observation for the next 72 hours, said sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the girl was shifted from a hospital in Dhaka yesterday morning. According to the DMCH sources, a team of physicians led by Dr Oshid Chandra Sarkar, assistant professor of Neurosurgery department, conducted an hour-long surgery started around 1pm. Oshid Chandra said: “Condition of the victim remains unchanged and she is still in a critical state.” He also said they would be able to say something about her after 72 hours. Rohima Begum, mother of the girl, said: “Three days have passed since my daughter lost her sense, but her condition remains unchanged. Moreover, doctors are not saying us anything clearly.” Zakaria Al Mamun Dulal, parental uncle of the victim, urged people the country to pray for the girl. Quoting family members, police said a group of criminals entered the girl’s room and raped her in the early hours of Friday. Later, they left the scene after stabbing her haphazardly in the face and head, leaving her critically injured. In next morning, mother of the victim woke up hearing her daughter’s howl and found the room locked from outside. As they shouted for help, locals rushed to the spot and immediately took the girl to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, Bogra. She was shifted to National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital, Dhaka for better treatment. Later, she was shifted to the DMCH yesterday. However, law enforcers could not arrest anyone in this connection yet. Ashok Kumar Pal, assistant superintendent of police, said they had taken the incident  seriously. He also said they would take next course of actions following deposition of the girl.
