Joypurhat rape victim still in critical state
The victim is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in Dhaka. Dr Manar Hafiz, medical officer of Neuro-truma and Neurosurgery department of National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital, said: “Her brain was damaged due to internal bleeding. We will be able to say something about her health condition after 72-hour observation.” Praising the efforts of the doctors of Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (ZRMCH), she said doctors of the hospital did an awesome job. They had handled the victim carefully. Now her condition was stable compared to Friday.” Zakaria Al Mamun Dulal, parental uncle of the victim, who is staying with the victim, told the Dhaka tribune over phone that Ziaur Rahman Hospital authorities referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but they admitted the victim to National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital yesterday around 1:30am where doctors are trying to save her life.  He also urged the countrymen to pray for the girl. Earlier, a group of criminals stabbed the class IX schoolgirl haphazardly after rape at Matrai union in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat in early hours of Friday. Quoting family members, police said the criminals entered the girl’s room silently and raped her. Later, they left the scene after haphazardly stabbing her in the face and head, leaving her critically injured. In next morning, mother of the victim woke up hearing her daughter’s howl and found the room locked from outside. As they shouted for help, locals rushed to the spot and immediately took the girl to the ZRMCH in Bogra. Later, she was shifted to National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital, Dhaka for better treatment. The victim’s father who is a farm labourer, suspected that the rapists stabbed his daughter, as she identified them. Victim’s parental uncle filed a case against unnamed people with Kalai police station on Saturday. Meanwile, locals blocked the Kalai-Gobindaganj Road Saturday, protesting the incident and demanding justice for the girl. Police, however, could not arrest anyone in this connection. Ashok Kumar Pal, assistant superintendent of police, who had visited the spot, said: “We have taken the incident very seriously. We are trying to arrest the criminals. I hope that we will be able to solve the case very soon.” The most innocent girl in the area The victim is known as an innocent and a pious girl in her locality. Locals said the victim was one of the most innocent girls in the area and she never quarreled with anyone. She was also known as good student at her school. The whole area was yowling for the girl. Rokibul Bari, victim’s school teacher, said: “The victim is very talented girl and she loves her study a lot. She is regular in her study.” Demanding justice over the incident, he said: “It is very tough to accept such incident. The criminals should be punished.” ANM Shawkat Habib, chairman of Matrai union, said: “Family of the victim has no dispute with anybody.” Seeking justice for the victim, he said: “The area where they live is famous for drug addicts. Drug addicts might have stabbed the girl after rape.”
