Indefinite transport strike in Gaibandha
Abdul Rashid Sarkar, president of Motor Vehicle Workers’ Association, announced the strike in a press briefing on Monday, reports UNB. No autorickshaws, light vehicles, long and short route buses were seen plying the roads till filing of this report around 9:10am. People particularly the patients have been suffering because of the situation. On December 13, eight people were injured in a clash between two groups of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce in the district town. As sequel to the incident, some miscreants on the next day attacked the staff of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ and vandalised the bus counter in the town. Moktadir Rahman Mithu, president of the district’s Tank-lorry Association, filed a case with Sadar police station accusing six people for the offence. The transport owners and workers adopted the programme demanding the arrest of the accused.
