Gendaria police found Niyamotullah, 16, working at Mokles Hotel at Kodomrasul yesterday morning.
Niyamotullah, a student of Markaj Al Zamiatul Nafizia Al Islamia Qoumi Madrasa in Agailjhara, left the madrasa quietly on November 30.
His family says he left because of an argument with his father.
But three days later he sent an SMS to his mother’s mobile phone, saying: “Maa, I am well. Do not worry about me. I have chosen the path of Allah.”
This text, coupled with his disappearance coinciding with those of several youth from in Dhaka, raised the concern that he had been radicalised and the news was covered widely by the media.
Gendaria police station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Mizanur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune the restaurant owner Amirul Islam informed police about the boy after seeing his name and photo in newspapers.
The boy also told the police he had left home because he was angry with his father.
Later in the day Gendaria police handed him over to a team of Barisal police.
