Bangladesh observes Human Rights Day
In a message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed Bangladesh’s ‘unwavering commitment’ to uphold human rights and fundamental freedom of all people around the world as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon ahead of Human Rights Day called on the international community to “stand up for someone’s right today, tomorrow and every day.” The Human Rights Commission, various rights organisations and NGOs have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 commemorating the day on which in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all states and interested organisations to observe December 10 as Human Rights Day.
