One held for torturing minor boy in Habiganj

Police arrested a person in connection with the torture of a minor boy at Chhoysree village of Chunarughat upazila, Habiganj on Tuesday. Officer-in-Charge of Chunarghat police Nirmulendu Chakraborty said that they had filed a case after arresting Sohel Mia from Asampara area of Habiganj around 12:30pm. Local sources said that Ashik Mia, 11, son of Manik Mia and student of class III at a local government primary school, borrowed Tk100 from Sohel of the same village around a month back. Ashik promised Sohel, aged around 25 years, to pay it back in five phases. He paid back Tk40 in two phases about two weeks ago. On that day, Sohel demanded the rest of the money, but Ashik failed to meet the demand. Sohel, son of Lebas Ullah, then tied Ashik to a stake of his house and beat him up. Later, the villagers and local union parishad member Safikur Rahman Sapu rescued the boy.
