2 NSU students among four youths go missing

Safayet Hossain, Zayen Hossain Khan Pavel, Sujon, and Mehedi were last seen at a restaurant next to a Northern University campus in Banani.

Safayet and Pavel are enrolled at North South University (NSU). Sujon is known to have been working at a private firm in Banani. No solid information has been discovered about Mehedi.

Police say Safayet and Pavel went to eat at a restaurant in Banani on December 1 evening. They were joined by Sujon. After their meal, the three left and have not seen since. Only after the investigation began was it found out that Mehedi, one of their friends, was also missing.

Their families reported not receiving any phone calls demanding ransom.

Police officers are, however, suspicious about the four disappearing simultaneously.

Banani Inspector (Investigations) Waheduzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune that Pavel's father had filed a general diary (GD) with police on December 4 stating his son was missing.

Police took the matter seriously, said the inspector, adding that they had checked with other law enforcement agencies to see if the missing were being detained.

He said: “Their last confirmed sighting was at Northern Cafe, adjacent to Northern University in Banani."

“We are cooperating with security forces to find out as many clues as possible to their whereabouts. As things stand, we cannot call them criminals at this juncture,” Inspector Waheduzzaman said.

Pavel is a student at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department of NSU. Safayet was a student of NSU too but he took a break from studies to help out his father with the family business in Old Dhaka.
