Doctor abduction: HC issues rule

The High Court, on Sunday issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain in 10 days why their inaction to find the abducted doctor, Muhammed Iqbal Mahmud should not be declared negligence in duty.

The bench of Justice Tariq Ul Hakim and Justice Mohammad Faruk issued the rule following a writ petition filed by the victim’s father AKM Nurul Alam on Tuesday.

The court also asked the home secretary, inspector general of police, director general of RAB, DMP commissioner, DB DC, commanders of RAB 2, 3, 11, Dhanmondi OC to reply in four weeks.

According to the plea, Dr Iqbal was picked up by plain clothed men on October 15 from Science Laboratory intersection in the capital.

CCTV footage of the abduction went on viral where a police van was seen following the microbus.

At a press conference on Nov 17, the father of the abducted doctor claimed that law enforcement agencies were not cooperating in finding his son.
