Communist Party’s 11th congress kicks off
The four-day-long congress is being held at three different places in the capital simultaneously, with the participation of 683 district-level representatives including women and members of indigenous communities, and 26 foreign dignitaries from 12 countries including USA, Germany, North Korea and Russia. Future strategies of the party would be obtained through closed-door sessions scheduled from October 29 at Qazi Bashir Auditorium in Gulistan. On the last day, central committee and control commission of the party will be elected at a closed-door session. Hoisting the national and the party flags, CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and Secretary General Sayed Abu Zafar Ahmed inaugurated the congress at 3pm with the rendition of national anthem by party activists. Presidium members of the party and foreign guests then placed floral wreaths at a makeshift Shaheed Minar set up beside the stage. Law enforcement agencies have taken strict security measures in and around the historic ground. Participants entered the venue through an archway. The last congress was held on October 13, 2012.
