Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF at Kurigram border
A Bangladeshi farmer has been injured as Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire at a group of farmers on Antapur frontier in Kurigram on Friday. The injured is Aminul Islam, 35, son of Ashraf Ali of North Antapur village. BSF troops opened fire on a group of 5 to 7 people when they went to the bordering area for bringing sacks of meat from Indian village Khitaberkuthi, said Abdul Latif, habildar of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Antapur BOP. Aminul Islam who was shot in his forehead was taken to an unknown place by his fellows, he said. Lt Col Md Jakir Hossain, commander of Kurigram BGB, said a letter has been sent to the BSF authorities protesting the incident. According to rights body Ain o Salish Kendra, BSF shot dead 21 Bangladeshis and tortured to death six others along the border from January to September. The reason behind another death could not be ascertained. At least 28 others were injured in attacks by the BSF personnel and 19 abducted during the same time. All but one were returned to the BGB.
