Update : 27 Oct 2016, 01:51 AM
Macher raja Ilish r desher raja police (Ilish is the king of all fishes and police are the king of the whole country) said a police officer in the capital at the beginning of the year in the capital while beating up a DSCC officer. The incident sparked huge public outcry and widespread criticism at that time. Such incidents are not something new in the country and they happen every now and then not only in Dhaka but also outside of the capital. A section of police first lay the trap for innocent people and then they bring false allegation of keeping drug, mugging and trafficking. Such an incident was about to happen yesterday in Jessore. A businessman was going to be picked up by police on charge of trading yaba. But the time did not favour him. According to reports of our correspondent, Sub-Inspector Sirajul Islam of Chougacha Police Station kept some yaba tablets by his source in Super Electric and Varieties Store in the Main road area owned by one Rabon Kumar. After the source came out of the store, the SI went to the spot and charged Rabon for keeping the drug. Rabon protested the allegation. At one stage, the SI and his source were trying to pick him up. Hearing screams of Rabon, other traders gathered in front of the store and requested the police official to check the video footage of the market to prove Rabon’s involvement. As they knew they would find nothing of that sort in the video footage they tried to flee the scene. While trying to escape the traders along with locals caught them and gave a beating. They somehow managed to squeezed out of the clutches of the locals and ran away. Closing the market, the traders brought up a protest procession and demanded exemplary punishment to the police officer. On information, a team of police, led by OC (IO) Maruf Akter went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Mayor Nuruddin Al Mamun, Business Samity’s General Secretary Ebadat Hossain assured the traders they would take steps against the SI. When contacted, OC M Moshiur Rahman said they would investigate the incident.
