Deceased Shah Alam Nayan, 35, was Organising Secretary of Savar Municipality unit Jubo Dal. He was accused of 10 cases over murder, illegal firearms, drug dealing and abductions.
Savar model police station Officer-in-Charge SM Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
Police picked up Nayan from Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on Friday night and then police taking him conducted a drive in Birulia area to recover arms as per information extracted from him.
Later, Nayan died in a gunfight with police in front of Krishibid Institute in the area, the OC added.
