Quader: Tough law soon to prevent road crashes
The government has undertaken initiative to enact a tough law to prevent rising road accidents in the country, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said. The minister said this in the Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday while responding to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazi Feroz Rashid, reports BSS. With a view to reining in road crashes, the government would bring a road transportation bill with the provisions of stringent punitive measures in the House soon, Quader said. He expressed the hope that the bill would be passed in the coming session of the parliament. He also said the proposed bill will have the provisions of taking tough legal measures against the motor vehicles without fitness and other certificates. Lawmaker Feroz Rashid, in the supplementary, expressed concern over the loss of nearly 256 lives in road accidents across Bangladesh during the Eid-ul-Azha and sought remedy.
