The incident took place in Faridpur town on Thursday and burnt ATM Rafiqul Huda, 48, died of his injures at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday dawn. Surgeon at the burn unit of the DMCH Partho Shonkor Pal confirmed the death.
Rafiqul is younger brother of former election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda.
DMCH police camp Sub-Inspector Bachhu Miah said Rafiqul’s corpse has been kept in the morgue for autopsy. He was admitted to the hospital with 60% burns.
It was learnt that SSC-passed Mudgha set his parents afire in their residence as they refused to buy new motorcycle for him. His mother Silvia Huda received minor injuries in the fire as well and she had to take treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Rafiqul Huda was referred to the DMCH on Friday when his condition deteriorated.
Family member sources said Mugdha passed SSC from Faridpur Zilla High School this year and after the results, he has been pressing his father to buy a latest model motorcycle for him. Currently, he has been using a bike of Yamaha brand, which market value is Tk5 lakh.
In the night of September 13, Mugdha posted a status on his Facebook page, stating that: “It is required to be selfish for the sake of self betterment in the world. And it is true that one should be unselfish for the sake of others.
Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazim Uddin said: “No one has not complained to me in this regard yet. But police will file a case despite the situation.”
