Tannery owners and leather goods traders have jointly set the prices for rawhides of sacrificial animals ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, lowering the price by 10% from last year's rate.
The leaders of Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association, Bangladesh Tanners Association and Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants Association made the announcement at a press conference in the capital on Friday.
The price of raw cow hide has been set at Tk50 per square foot in the capital and Tk40 elsewhere while the price of goatskin at Tk20 per square foot in Dhaka and Tk15 elsewhere.
This year, tanners did not make any official announcement regarding the prices of buffalo hide, however, the sector people said they would buy the item at Tk25-30 per square foot.
Last year, the price of raw cowhide was fixed at TK50-55 per square foot in the capital while the price of goatskin was set in between Tk15 and Tk22 per square foot.
The traders cut the prices of rawhide citing a fall in the international market.
