Afsana 'killing': Police examine CCTV footage, family receives threats

Update : 17 Aug 2016, 10:33 PM
Family of architecture student Afsana Ferdous claims they have been receiving threats over the phone as police examine surveillance footage to crack mystery of the 24-year-old's death. Police say they have seized the CCTV footage from Al-Helal Hospital and hope to identify the two men who had taken the girl’s body there on Saturday afternoon. Kafrul police station's Officer-in-Charge Shikdar Mohammad Shamim declined comment on any progress, saying they were checking the footage. Afsana's relatives allege that Bangladesh Chhatra League's Tejgaon College unit Organising Secretary Habibur Rahman Robin is involved in the murder. They also claimed to have received threats calls, reports Bangla Tribune. They said Robin's cousin had called them several times over the phone and proposed negotiation. The victim's mother said the BCL leader's mother had asked them to come over for talks.

Robin could not be reached for comments. Two men dropped off Afsana's body at Al-Helal Hospital and fled soon after. Primary signs indicated that the victim had been strangled with a rope after being raped. The on-duty doctor said she had died before being brought there. Afsana's family had received a series of anonymous phone calls informing the family about the location of the body on Saturday night. Her maternal uncle and cousins identified her body at the DMCH morgue on early Sunday. Police sources said they would file a murder case after getting the primary autopsy report – which is expected within several days.
