The CDA organised a meeting at Chittagong Press Club on Thursday on how to collect, store, use and manage rainwater on the rooftops.
At the meeting, the CDA Chairman Abdus Salam urged the multi-storied building owners and real estate companies to set up rainwater harvesting system.
“Enacting laws and taking forceful measures are not always successful. All of us should come forward spontaneously in this regard. A real estate company has already been given the layout approval for harvesting rainwater on the rooftops of a multi-storied building.” said the CDA chairman.
Rainwater harvesting is a technique used for collecting, storing and using rainwater in irrigation and other purposes. Normally, water is collected from the rooftops and stored in tanks.
The programme was attended, among others, by Shahinul Islam Khan, chief town planner of the CDA, AKM Rezaul Karim, chief city planner of Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong WASA Engineer Nazrul Haque and Ejaj Rasul, former chief engineer of the Cwasa.
