HC orders Housing Minister to surrender in court
The High Court has ordered Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain to surrender in court within six weeks in a corruption case. The bench of justices Enayetur Rahim and Amir Hossain issued the order on Thursday after rejecting a petition by the minister challenging legality of the Anti Corruption Commission case filed in 2007. Mosharraf has been charged with amassing wealth to the tune of Tk3 crore illegally and concealing information. Following his petition, the High Court had previously granted him bail and ordered freezing the case proceedings. ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told reporters that the defence counsel on Thursday told the bench that his client would not proceed with the petition. The court then rejected the petition and ordered the case to continue in lower court, he added.
