5 Ansarullah men indicted in blogger Oyasiqur murder case
Third Additional Metropolitan Session Judge SM Ziaur Rahman gave the order on Wednesday. Earlier, police produced three Ansarullah members before the court from the Dhaka jail while the rest two remained absconding. The court fixed August 4 to start the case formally through the witness hearing. The arrested three are Zikrullah alias Hasan, 19, from Raipura upazila under Narsingdi district, Md Ariful Islam alias Arif alias Erfan alias Mushfique, 19, from Titas upazila under Comilla district, Md Saiful Islam alias Mansur, 23, from Manoharganj upazila under Comilla. The wanted two are Zoned Ahmed alias Zonayed alias Taher, 24, from Nabiganj upazila under Habiganj district, and Abdullah alias Md Akram Hossain alias Boro Bhai, 28, from Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj district. On March 30, 2015, travel agency executive Oyasiqur, 27, was hacked to death by three assailants on Dipika Mosque Lane of Begunbari, close to Tejgaon Textile Engineering University, when he was going to office in Motijheel. While fleeing, two of the killers – Zikrullah, student of Hefazat-e-Islam's Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong, and Ariful, student of Mirpur Darul Uloom Madrasa – were held by two transgendered persons as locals remained reluctant to chase the killers. The other member of the team, Abu Taher, escaped. The duo was handed over to police who later recovered the machetes from the crime scene. The incident took place only a month after secular blogger and former Buet teacher Avijit Roy and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya came under attack by extremists linked to banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (or Ansar Al Islam, the Bangladesh affiliate of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent) on February 26 last year. Avijit succumbed to his injuries at a hospital the same night.
