Divided they fall, together they rise

Update : 07 May 2016, 06:16 PM

The Russo brothers (co-directors) have put together possibly the finest superhero/comic book genre film of the past five years. Many would argue, it lives up to (or even better) the original 2012 film The Avengers. Okay, maybe we’re reaching a bit. The Avengers was ‘a one of a kind’ - a film that presented an incredible ensemble cast that was executed brilliantly.

When the team of superheroes got together to take down evil, they now find themselves fiL2GI2c8ghting each other. Two different ideals, with plenty of political elements, clash against each other. And the rest, as they say, is history. With a 91% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, it really isn’t hard to see why this movie came out to be so successful and raved about. The balance was well struck throughout the entire film. No film is perfect, but this comes pretty darn close for the film’s genre.

Two main characters of the original Avengers squad, Thor and The Hulk, were replaced by the introduction of Black Panther and Spider-Man. And let’s just say the absence of the former duo was not felt at the least bit. The Russo brothers delegated the right amount of screen time and significance to each of the characters without sacrificing their importance. Although everyone got a fair chunk, it was still clear that this was Captain America’s movie. Ultimately, his outcome was the main focus. And for all those legitimate comic book nerds and geeks out there, plain and simple, it was simply beautiful watching some of the most popular superheroes beating the crap out of each other.

As mentioned, the film isn’t perfect. As usual, Marvel does what it does best and fails in the same category as well. The main villain, you could say, wasn’t utilised or presented as a larger threat. Without spilling spoilers, the antagonist uses the superheroes against each other but his conviction seemed to lack a bit. Clearly, Marvel has a few things to learn from DC and vice versa. However, this won’t leave too big of a dent to the experience that is Civil War. You may reserve judgement; you may not even love this film. You may, however, enjoy yourself very much. With the fantastic fight scenes and performances, the audience will not be left disappointed. This is the perfect segue for the next blockbuster Infinity War.
