Charge framing in Rana Plaza case on June 13

Update : 15 May 2016, 10:01 PM
A Dhaka court has fixed June 13 for the hearing of charge framing in a case filed over the Rana Plaza collapse against 41 suspects, including the building's owner Sohel Rana. Dhaka District and Sessions Judge SM Kuddus Zaman set the fresh date yesterday following a time petition filed by the case's defence side. The court accepted the charge sheet on April 28 against the 41 accused, including Sohel Rana and his parents Abdul Khaled and Marjina Begum. The charge sheet was submitted on June 1 last year by Assistant Superintendent of Police Bijoy Krishna Kar of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who is the case's investigation officer. The charge sheet listed Sohel Rana and his parents along with 38 others, including the owners of five RMG factories, as the suspects in the case filed for murder under the Penal Code. The eight-storey Rana Plaza, which housed five RMG factories, a shopping mall and a branch of Brac Bank Ltd, collapsed on April 24, 2013 killing over 1,100 people and injuring more than 2,500 others, most of whom were RMG workers. Following the incident, two cases – one for murder and the other for violating building code – were filed with Savar police station.
