The deceased was Shahidullah, 35, son of Harun Mian of Shibpur village.
Md Selim Mia, Barpara Union Parishad Chairman and uncle of Shahidullah, said a gang of miscreants swooped on Shahidullah over snatching incident and hit him with hammer and stabbed and beat him, leaving him critically injured around 10:30 pm.
Shahidullah was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2am.
Police also arrested two people Rafiqul Islam and Abdul Wadud in connection with the incident.
