One killed in nor'wester, 5 hurt

A child was killed during a nor'wester early yesterday in Biswambharpur upazila of the district. The dead was identified as Tanzina Begum, 11, daughter of Fazar Ali, a resident of Jagannathpur village. According to the police and locals, Tanzina died after the roof of her house collapsed on her during the nor'wester that swept through 10 villages of the upazila including Palash, Alipur, Jagannathpur, Dhanpur and Shalukabad around 1am. The nor'wester damaged around 250 village homes and injured five people, locals said. Biswambharpur police station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohibur Rahman confirmed the child's death and the damage the villages received.
