An American man has drowned after proposing to his girlfriend underwater, during their trip in Tanzania.
The deceased- Steven Weber - and his girlfriend, Kenesha Antoine, were staying in a cabin submerged under the ocean at Manta Resort, off Pemba Island.
The authorities of Manta Resort said Weber "tragically drowned while freediving alone, outside the underwater room" on Thursday afternoon, BBC reports.
A statement issued by the resort said: "It is with the deepest regret that we inform that a fatal accident occurred at The Manta Resort on Thursday 19 September, 2019."
The entire proposal was recorded and posted on Facebook on Friday.
According to the footage, Weber dived underwater and pressed a hand-written proposal note against the cabin window as Antoine filmed from inside, before pulling an engagement ring from his shorts and swimming out of view.
Confirming Weber's death, BBC quoted Antoine's Facebook post, which said he "never emerged from those depths."
Matthew Saus, CEO of the resort, said "everyone is shaken to the core" by Weber's death.
He also said his staff responded to a "problem in the water," but when they arrived "absolutely nothing could be done."
Weber and Antoine had booked four nights at the resort's underwater room, which lies approximately 250m (820ft) from the shore.
