The bride handed over the keys to the families after the wedding
Inspired while planning his daughter’s wedding, businessman Ajay Kumar Munot built and donated 90 homes to the homeless, in Lasur town of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India.
"In September last year, while planning my daughter's wedding, I suddenly felt I should do something for the less privileged. We had made all the bookings for the wedding, but somewhere I felt I wanted the less fortunate to be a part of this special celebration. My brother Prashant Bamb, the local MLA, suggested that I donate homes to the shelterless since that is a cause few people take up," Munot said in an interview with India Today.
With the help of his brother, Munot procured the land for the homes and laid their foundation stone on October 2 last year. The construction was completed and the homes donated for the wedding.
Each of the homes is 12 feet by 20 feet, and includes a room as well as a kitchen. Munot’s daughter Shreya handed over the keys to the 90 selected families after the wedding.
According to Munot, he had two conditions for those who were selected to receive the homes. As he is Jain, Munot stipulated that the beneficiaries not eat meat or consume alcohol.
