Hurricane Matthew, the most powerful Atlantic storm since 2007, has killed at least 17 people in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina since Thursday and left more than two million businesses and homes without power. Haiti bore far more damage than the United States, where the hurricane killed almost 900 people. At least 13 people have died of cholera in the Caribbean island since the storm. Officials have also said around 61,500 people are housed in shelters. Coastal communities in North Carolina and Virginia were still being threatened by the hurricane over the weekend, with flash flood warnings in effect and gusts of 75 miles per hour (120 kph) were recorded.
