Ro Khanna-led US delegation’s visit to India to strengthen bilateral relations

A high-powered delegation of US Congress members is scheduled to visit Delhi next week, with Congressman Ro Khanna leading the delegation. During a recent meeting with representatives from various Indian-American organizations, including Hindus for Human Rights, the Indian-American Muslim Council, and India Civil Watch International, Khanna expressed his commitment to protecting minority rights in India. Speaking exclusively with CNN-News18 from Mumbai, he highlighted the historical significance of the upcoming visit and his personal connection to India's independence movement.

Khanna emphasized the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the US and the increasing collaboration between the two nations across diverse sectors. He underlined the successful partnership between the United States and India, particularly in defense, technology, economy, and cultural exchanges. The delegation's engagements include interactions with figures like Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher.

Khanna stressed that the foundation of the US-India relationship must be rooted in democratic values, press freedom, pluralism, and the protection of minority rights. He condemned violence against religious institutions and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for these principles.

Addressing the recent US ban on certain Chinese companies, Khanna advocated for prudent decision-making, especially concerning sensitive technology transfers to China. He highlighted the importance of export controls to prevent advanced technology from contributing to China's military capabilities. He expressed enthusiasm for joint military exercises between the US and India, including the Malabar exercise and naval joint operations.

Responding to questions about the Khalistani protests in the US, Khanna emphasized the sovereignty of India and stated that the United States does not recognize separatist movements. Regarding his India itinerary, he mentioned planned meetings with the head of the Western Naval Command and engagements with military exercises, industry leaders, and influential figures like Anand Mahindra.
