Malaysian anti-terror operations detain hundreds including Bangladeshis

Malaysian law enforcement agencies are conducting anti-terror operations ahead of the Southeast Asian Games. As of Tuesday morning, over 400 people have been arrested. The majority of them are of Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani nationalities. Malaysia authorities have not disclosed any further information to identify the detainees. But they said anyone found carrying false travel papers will be detained. The authorities have also said they will crack down on any suspects who may seek to travel to Iraq or Syria to join the terrorist forces abroad. The huge arrests are to enforce law and order to prevent any untoward incidents occurring during the Southeast Asian Games starting August 19 in Kuala Lumpur. Ayob Khan Mydin Pichay, head of the Counter Terrorism Division of the Royal Malaysian Police Force, told the FreeMalaysiaToday that the police are going to investigate the detainees to confirm whether any of them have any links to any terrorist organisations.
